good things come in 3s: Happy Birthday Monkey

A letter to my youngest on his 3rd birthday,

This is late, my littlest.  We’ve been doing far more living, and the time away from the computer has been time well spent.

This year has been an explosion for you.  Words galore.  Trouble and tantrums to the second power.

But the love and the kisses and the blessings, profound.
You will be a charmer.

And perhaps, a class clown with the IQ of Einstein.

Yes, your birthday suit is your preferred dress.
So backwards pajamas for you, until the Potty Training Gods bless our home.

You are curious.  Inquisitive.

Obsessed with all Things Thomas the Tank Engine.  You use the words cross and indignity in appropriate contexts.  I joke your old soul must have been British…

You study.  Question.  Observe.
Absorb everything around you.
Your memory is unparalleled.

Your pretend play is hilarious.  Watching your make-believe worlds is a dream come true.

Nana’s house is your preferred destination, because what happens at Nana’s stays at Nana’s.
At least she DIYs the popsicles…

You have lashes and lips to kill.
I’m sure in a few short years, I’ll be chasing the girls off the porch with a broom…

You’ve always had a passion for paint,
maybe because I painted murals so often when I was pregnant with you.

My budding artist…

we are known to hit up a craft fair…
With dimples to boot.
Bubbles and Doodle.  Never disappoint.

You are starting to read.  Early.  Like me.  The ease in which you learned all your letters and sounds this year amazes me.  You just absorbed it all from books and Word World.

Anything from the oven is good.

I don’t like underpants is the most famous phrase of the year.
I won’t go potty because Moose don’t go potty takes second place.

You are the best little brother.  You really are.

With a brain full of smarts and heart of innocence.

You’ll always be my little one.

You mastered Angry Birds by age 2.5

And are known for a mess or two.
You adore the zoo.  You can name every animal there, and know all their locations by heart.

I see a lot of your dad in you.  Your ease with puzzles and building…

You sleep a lot like me…

You love a green smoothie…

and animals of any kind.  You think the pet store is heaven.

Lately, you’ve started this….
which scares me a bit.
Your ease with words and letters is astounding,
you’ll make an excellent Scrabble partner in a few years time.

To the next year, and beyond kiddo.  May age 3, be another adventure.
Homeschooling you this year will be a blast.
Love always,
Mom
