in the daily fight
to communicate with my son
who is in a world of quiet mystery
i take for granted
the ease at which my youngest
has acquired play
and words
and mischief
it's living in two worlds
that of special needs
and that of "neurotypicalville"
in the same home
but my youngest is the best therapist
money can't buy
his obnoxious personality
and infectious laugh
are slowly bringing his older brother
back into our world
"c'mon, moose! play with me!"
he forces his pudgy two year old body
on top of his older brother, and
wrestles him to the ground
i watch the world's smallest occupational therapist at work.
they are both covered in bruises and bumps,
slowly becoming little men,
tumbling about like puppies.
this little man, indeed,
lives up to his costume.

Oh my gosh, this is one of the most beautiful things I've ever read. I love your boys and I don't even know them :) And that pic (at what looks like Trader Joes) with the sunglasses... cracking me up!
ReplyDeleteAdorable pics! Beautiful words!! xo
ReplyDeleteYes! We have an in-your-face little brother that has been so persistent at getting his older brother to play with him. Over the summer, we saw a huge jump in big brother's social skills just from playing with his little brother. We had been working all year to achieve those things at preschool and OT. Yay! for brothers :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so very touching. Love.

ReplyDeleteGreat post. A good reminder to all of us to take a moment to stop and appreciate the goings on of our everyday lives. It really does take an effort most days to do so!
ReplyDeleteThat was a lovely post. Your little guy is a hero--actually they both will be to each other.
