The Boys’ Room Makeover: The Before

It pains me to post these pictures, but I refuse to clean and doctor up the boys’ room for your viewing pleasure.  Sometimes, it’s fun to see things as they REALLY are on blogs.  Not the prettied up pictures you see all over pinterest.

Monkey, the terrible, is a 2 year old Tasmanian devil that destroys everything in his path.

This room is feeling dated and blah to me lately, and I still have my 4 year old Moose in his crib.  Monkey’s mattress is on the floor for safety reasons, because he’s a danger to himself.

Monkey’s best friend Nolan is now the proud owner of his toddler bed frame. I digress.

Luckily, Jenny from Simcoe Street is willing to do a mood board for me! I’m pumped to get someone else’s eyes on this space…

Jenny is a visionary, and what started as a plea in her comment section after I fell head over heels on a her son’s nursery {of which she thought I was kidding when I said, redo my kids’ room!}.  I assure you, I don’t kid.

God, that above pic from Jenny’s son’s room makes me drool…

Here’s the room.  In post-Monkey glory.  We enjoy keeping it real here at momnivore’s dilemma.

When you enter the room: this is what you see…
This is the north wall: the converted crib is where my Moose still sleeps…
Bean Bag from Z Gallerie that was like $5000.
I was working full-time back then.
Whatever.

Alphabet word wall.  Must stay.
They LOVE this.
Maybe a chalkboard wall beneath?

Our calendar area.
We do this rountine each morning like a preschool/kindergarten class.
So fun! They are learning sooo much.
That dead space would be a great space for a book spice rack wall!

The toy hell.
We need storage.
Cubbies, not a box, as I want everything labeled.
I was a teacher, can you tell???

Where some of our 5,000 books live for the time being.
A diaper box.
Awesome.

More monkey madness…

THINGS THAT COULD BE REPURPOSED in the HOUSE:
I could sew a custom cover for this scary pink chair…
This table and chairs could be painted and moved.
They are solid wood and have been beat up badly.
I scored this for $3.
I think it needs a paint job, don’t you?

Here’s some “pinspiration”…

Be on the lookout for a new space in 2012!

  1. Woot! I can’t wait to see how you incorporate learning/educational items in with the other necessaries. And Jenny’s room is freakin gorgeous.

  2. I know those pinterest photos look pretty, neat and organized, but when you unleash your two-year-old in a nice, tidy room like that (I have a two-year-old, too!) the end result will be the same as it is now. : ( It’s up to me to put toys away in this house…. so sometimes they just stay where they are! : )

I love the seussical tree in your boys’ room! Did you paint it yourself? Looking forward to the mood board she puts together for you.

  4. Love your inspiration! Can’t wait to see how you make it come to life! I bet it will look great!
