My friend Natalie over at Mad Momma and I share the same naturopathic physician. Nat told me about the wet sock treatment for fighting fevers and other upper body illnesses via Dr. N. After trying the wet sock treatment out on my sons this past week when some nasty virus took hold of the boys, I am a convert to all things naturopathic.
I am buying stock in socks, people. Move over liquid fever-reducers!
I needed this Dr. N in my life, so this past week, I brought her on my team of astute medical professionals. Actually, Dr. N is my first go-to person now, because it works people: freakin’ wet socks for fevers!
Apparently, the wet sock treatments works for all things upper respiratory, migraines, ear infections, strep throat, what have you. I can’t wait to get another migraine to try it out. Well, not really, but I am feeling armed against the impeding flu season now.
Here’s how to do the wet sock treatment in your home:
You’ll need:
-a warm bath first {crucial or it can harm you!}
-ice cold thin wet socks wrung out
-a thick pair of wool socks to cover those thin socks
1.) Warm the body for at least 10 minutes in the bath {or foot bath}.
2.) Immediately, following the bath, cover your feet with the wet socks first. Then, the wool socks.
3.) Try to nap, sleep, or just read.
The wet sock treatment knocks you out quickly. You should have seen how fast the boys went down.
The thinking behind the wet sock treatment for illness, is it activates the body’s natural immune system response. So all the happy white blood cells go off in search of viruses and bacteria on their way down to warm the feet.
Time to stock up your medicine cabinet with socks.
To your health,
Nicolette
Obviously, this post is for educational purposes only. I am not a doctor, and am merely sharing what has worked here at the estate in terms of dealing with illness. Use this at your own discretion You should get a naturopathic doc in your area. My ND rules. She’s the only doctor that has ever listened to me, and didn’t rush me out of her office in ten minutes with a prescription. Or talk to your regular western MD about this, but chances are, they will think you are a dirty hippie and pump you full of antibiotics for all your seasonal ailments.

I have horrible migraines, so I am going to try this. I don’t have a NP, but I am against meds as much as I can be. I have finally convinced my DIL that even though the boys get sniffles, they don’t need antibiotics even though the pediatrician has stuffed six scripts into her hand for every drug known to man. grrr Thx for sharing this tip. I am going to try it as well.
This sounds so amazing – I have never heard of this. I can’t wait to try this out on my next migraine (ok, like you said I CAN wait) but this is just so exciting to me! Thank you so much for the tips!
I found you over at Peas and Crayons! I will have to give this a try, I try to turn to natural first! I don’t like giving meds unless absolutly necessary!

Ooh. I’ll have to remember this. We just moved to the Chicago area and I miss the Hippie Crunchiness of Boulder. ; ) I’ve done the Vicks VapoRub on the bottoms of feet before for coughing, but never heard of this one.
And gotta find me a ND.
Interesting. I’ve heard of sticking socks in boiling lemon water (wrung out)then placed on feet with extra layer of wool socks. I was told this would lower temp by evening it out throughout the body. I am to understand fever is not bad but good, however, conventional med tells us to reduce with drugs … but that can cause fever to spike and possibly bring on febriles. I will try this if I get another hormonal headache. Thanks for the tip
