Beat the Winter Blues: Pamper Yourself

Today’s topic at Beat the Winter Blues is pampering.  With two little boys at home and even less time to take care of myself, I need this topic like none other.  So, I invited April from Cup of Delight to share a great pampering idea with you…

Take it away, April!

Hey everyone! I am so excited to be a part of Beat the Winter Blues! Thank you, Nicolette, for kindly asking me to be a part of this fabulous party.
I’m April stopping by from Cup of Delight, where I write about crafts, recipes, decor, traveling and some other of the too many hobbies I have. A little about me-I’ve been married for a little over a year. I have a degree in journalism, but I only use it to write my blog. :-) I work in full-time Christian ministry with college students. They are my only kids right now. I turn the big 3-0 in March and I am actually excited about it. Enough about me-let’s get to pampering ourselves!

How To Pamper Yourself With a DIY Facial
Facials at the spa can be expensive, but you can do this one at home with ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen! The best part-it makes your face feel fabulous and soft. I have sensitive skin and this works wonderfully on my face.
Step 1-Clean Your Face
You can use your regular cleanser OR make a natural, soothing one.

Facial Cleanser:
2 tsp flax seed
1 1/2 cups water
Oatmeal
Bring water to boil and add Flax seed. Simmer for 15 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and cool-it will turn into a gel-like substance. Add enough oatmeal to make a smooth paste. Rub over face and rinse with warm water. It should look like this (basically, like a bowl of oatmeal):

Step 2: Steam Your Face
This opens up your pores, so the face mask can work it’s magic even better.
Pour boiling water into a bowl and tent your head over the bowl, like this:

You can add peppermint leaves to rejuvenate yourself or lavender to relax.

Step 3: Face Mask

Here’s the recipe for a simple mask that tightens your pores and soothes your face:
1/2 cup oatmeal
1 smashed avocado
1/3 cup honey

Mix the avocado and honey in a bowl. Then, add the oatmeal. Apply and leave on for 10-15 minutes. Wash off with warm water.

Here I am modeling the face mask-yeah, it looks gross, but it feels AMAZING! I recommend using a headband, as I failed to do. I had avocado and honey in my hair.

Step 4: Toner
Again, you can use store bought toner, but you can also make a simple one mixing 3 cups of water and 1/3 cup of apple cider vinegar. Works the same way!

Step 5: Lotion
I did this at night, so I used my favorite night lotion-Boots No.7 found at Target. I seriously love that stuff.
Who needs a spa when you have a kitchen?! Hope ya’ll enjoy this as much as I do!

April, thanks so much for those ideas! My mom and I used to make our own homemade masks all the time.  I do have all of those ingredients on hand, including the flaxseeds!  Everyone, be sure to stop by her blog!

  1. I love this pampering post. I feel like a bit of pampering today. My little one has been off school with chicken pox. Today is his first day back and I’m worn out!!
