{she’s crafty} Valentine’s Craft: Conversation Meta-Heart

Back when I was teaching, my months were defined by seasons and holidays.  Now that I am a SAHM, I find that rhythm returning.

I often gawk at price tags on holiday decor, so I suffer from the “I’ll make that for next to nothing”.  Perhaps it was my brief stint teaching art in Chicago Public Schools, but I can make something from nothing.

Back in the teaching days, I’d get $100 for supplies to last a whole year from the district.  I love me some cereal boxes for cardstock.  I can do wonders with newspaper and glue.  Borrow and beg, those poor teaching souls.  The dollar store employees and I were on a first name basis.

So with a few bags of these from the dollar store…

a gift box deconstructed…

a lil hot glue
The ingredients in this are total Frankenfood.
Scariness.

But they sure make pretty decorations.  And I am supporting American’s corn farmers.  Look at all that corn syrup.  I break out in hives just looking at it…

For less than $3…

Behold, my lil gems.

and after all the hot gluing…I painted them with a lil modge and glitter.
all holidays should be glittery like this.
see how that winter wreath is transformed for less than $1?

The monsters did get ahold of a few.  There was 5 meta hearts in total. After playtime this morning and mama being distracted by coffee and blogs, like the great Agatha Christie once said, “And then there were two.”
*Lesson learned.  Do this on wood and NOT cardstock.  Keep them out of reach of children. They will not survive toddlers tossing them like footballs.
Still, they were too cute not to share with ya’ll.

Do you have a project you want to showoff?
Link it up to Creative Juice Thursday! The party stays open til Sunday at midnight, and then it turns into a pumpkin.

That is adorable! And with that ingredient list, it looks like that is what these things were truley made for, right?

Cute idea with the candy hearts! I like it! I’m definitely going to buy a bag on clearance after the holiday and save them for a craft next year. Those things taste like cardboard anyway, so I bet they last forever!

  3. Frankenfood = my new favorite word!

  4. That’s really actually pretty cute….never knew what to do with those coversation candies! Lol….not eat them that’s for sure!

Out hopping around, come by Lucy’s when you get a chance
